When you’re surrounded by larger countries, it’s easy to get lost in the crowd. But for Belize, the small nation tucked into Mexico's and Guatemala's embrace, being small has myriad advantages--especially since it has an overabundance of resources within its borders.
The Caribbean Sea hugs the Belize shore and the world’s second largest barrier reef skims along the coast for 240 miles. Thanks to the natural marine geology in this area of Central America, a surprising number of lagoons run the length of the nation, so while the size of Belize is technically 8,860 square miles, subtract those lagoons and the land mass is 8,300 square miles, making travel within the country fast.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES
Barrier Reef Snorkeling (Compliments of Exist Travels)
The Belize Barrier Reef is part of he Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second largest coral reef system in the world after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The reef is laced with sea life with thousands of brightly colored fish darting in and out of gorgeous corals in only 10 or 15 feet of water. Charles Darwin described it as "the most remarkable reef in the West Indies" in 1842.
LAMANAI MAYA RUIN EXCURSION
Lamanai is one of Belize's largest Maya ceremonial centers. The name means "submerged crocodile" in the Mayan language. This site, situated along the New River Lagoon, features monumental temples and palaces. Evidence dates the earliest occupation at the site to be around 1500 B.C., with the earliest pottery artifacts dating from about 500 B.C.
Seven temples grace this majestic site, including the Jaguar Temple, the Mask Temple, and the High Temple.
BLUE HOLE SNORKELING
For the non-diver to experience the Blue Hole, the snorkeling is world class and the same sea life viewed from top side is just as breathtaking! This trip visits the same three sites listed above.
CAVE TUBING AND ZIP LINING
This excursion is a one of a kind combination of adventures. Zip lining through the rain forest has become a popular activity in Belize - a way for anyone to feel like Tarzan for a day. Safely secured in a harness with feet dangling free, zip line riders will traverse from platforms in the jungle canopy, whizzing past a stunning display of tropical flora and fauna. The zip lining will take approximately 1hr and is composed of six different lines.
GUIDED FISHING
Belize has some of the best game fishing in the world. As part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef – the largest in the Western Hemisphere – the Belize Barrier Reef offers unmatched fishing opportunities. Some anglers tell us it is virtually impossible to go fishing in Belize and not catch something!
Great weather, a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of action are all part of the Belize fishing experience. Some of the favorite sport fish in Belize are snook, tarpons, jack, barracudas, bone fish, snappers, permit, plus many more!
The types of fishing trips we offer are:
River Fishing Reef Fishing Flat Fishing Fly or Spin Fishing
ST. HERMANS CAVE & BLUE HOLE NATIONAL PARK
Immerse yourself in the jungle environment in this one-of-a kind park. St. Herman’s is a source of wonder with numerous underground streams, sinkholes and an extensive cave system. You will hike for approximately 1⁄2 hr to the entrance of the cave. St. Herman’s Cave Park is home to over 200 species birds and is ideal for birding. Three of the five species of wild cats found in Belize: jaguar, ocelot and jaguarondi - have been sighted in the park. Other residents include the Baird’s Tapir and Nine-banded Armadillo. Please note Jaguar and Ocelot sightings are extremely rare!
Complete your adventure with a swim in the sapphire waters of the inland Blue Hole (not to be confused with the Great Blue Hole out in the ocean) located just 5-minute drive from the caves. The Blue Hole National Park is a 25ft deep natural swimming pool fed by an underground river. Be sure to take a swim suit or change of dry clothes (towels will be provided by the resort).
DIVING PACKAGES
The Diver certification courses we offer are taught to the standards of the Recreational Scuba Training Council, to which all major diving organizations belong (SSI, NASDS, PADI, RMCA, SCUBA, IDEA, and PDIC).
At St. George’s Caye, the resort we teach the Scuba School International (SSI) system because it gives our experienced instructors the versatility to teach each student to their experience and skillset. Our courses provide the same level of education and training that you would get in the U.S. and your certification will be recognized worldwide. With over 30 years of combined diving experience, our instructors and dive masters are ready to share the beauty of the undersea world.
The most sought after dive destination in Belize!
Departing St. George’s Caye at 7:00am with your breakfast on board, we start the day with a single tank dive exploring the famous Blue Hole. The second morning dive will take place at Lighthouse Reef, a magnificent site just outside of the Blue Hole. Lunch is enjoyed at the Boobie Bird Sanctuary, followed by the amazing wall dive at Lighthouse Reef.
PADI and SSI require that divers have their deep dive specialty advanced certification before diving the Blue Hole.
Turneffe Atoll is a group of small islands off the coast of Belize. It is approximately 30 miles long and 10 miles wide, making it the largest coral atoll in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System. The atoll was officially declared a marine reserve on November 22, 2012 because it is home to many important marine species. The land and seascape consists of a network of flats, creeks, and lagoons dotted by more than 150 mangrove islands. Large expanses of intact mangroves, seagrass habitats, and shallows provide important nursery functions for a wide array of fish species, crocodiles, lobster, conch and other invertebrates. It is home to more than 500 species of fish, 65 species of stony corals, sea turtles, manatees, dolphins, seabirds, and other wildlife. Turneffe Atoll is about a 30-minute boat ride from St. George’s Caye and offers some of the best wall dives in Belize.
